MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Some 300 servicemen of the Russian Western Military District and over 20 planes and helicopters carried out large-scale drill on providing aid in emergency situations in the Leningrad, Pskov and Moscow regions, the head of the district’s press service said Thursday.
"During the joint training, questions of distribution and transportation of necessary military equipment have been worked out, its delivery to the site of the imaginary man-made disaster, as well as the delivery of humanitarian aid and evacuation of wounded and killed in the areas of the emergency situation," Igor Muginov said.
In addition, the crews of the transport helicopters Mi-8 and Mi-26 completed the task of search and rescue of victims in the emergency situation, including those undertaken over water surface, Muginov said.
The transport crews also practiced landing on unprepared sites and delivering cargo on external slings.
