"The United States has worked with implementing partners to strengthen their internal controls and monitoring capabilities, among other actions," the official told Sputnik on Wednesday about the allocation of a new US $439 million aid package to Syria.
When asked if the United States took steps to improve the allocation given previous abuses in Turkey, the State Department official said "yes."
In May, the United States suspended aid to Turkey based on information provided by USAID’s Office of Inspector General about fraud in humanitarian aid for Syrians.
"We have every confidence that our international partners will allocate the funding effectively," the State Department official added.
On Tuesday, US Secretary John Kerry announced that the United States is providing nearly $439 million in additional lifesaving humanitarian assistance for those affected by the war in Syria.
Kerry is headed to Moscow this week to discuss the humanitarian situation in Syria along with extending the ceasefire and coordinating anti-terrorism efforts.
