He emphasized the need to wiretap the phones of all suspected terrorists, to watch their movements, expand the network of agents working inside terrorist cells and monitor the social network accounts of terrorist sympathizers.
“Europe finally needs to show its strength and readiness to respond [to the terrorist threat]. We need to do more than just hold protest marches while terrorists keep killing us. I welcome President Putin’s initiative in Syria, which kick started international action. We all realized the need to fight Daesh exactly where it came from — Syria.”
Franco Frattini said that yesterday’s visit to Moscow by US Secretary of State John Kerry underscored once again the need to have a common front against terror. “We should stop looking for allies among the Syrian opposition.”
“We should also stop talking about the terrorists’ rights, we need to be tough, the rights of victims must prevail over the rights of those who kill them. Our thoughts should be with the children who died in Nice, not the terrorists. There is a war going on and we must admit this,” Frattini emphasized.
He added that, under the circumstances, talking about the need for anti-Russian sanctions made no sense, that Europe, Russia and the US should join hands in the fight against the common enemy – terrorism.
“Russia is not an enemy, it’s our strategic partner. If we want to fight terrorism we should stop wincing when dealing with Putin. Enough of this economic war with Russia, we must fight together against terrorism, which is our common enemy,” Franco Frattini said in conclusion.
