All flights between Japanese cities and the Turkish capital, Istanbul, have been cancelled following the attempted military coup in Turkey, media reported on Saturday.

TOKYO (Sputnik) — According to the NHK broadcaster, a flight from Istanbul to Kansai International Airport was cancelled on Saturday morning, as well as a return flight.

Turkish President: Those Involved in Military Coup Will Pay High Price
International Ataturk Airport in Istanbul was closed after the military coup attempt started in Turkey. Later, it resumed operations, a Turkish Airlines flight was the first to land there.

Earlier on Saturday, the Turkish government came under siege by a faction of military forces who sought to end the rule of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan citing the leader's drift away from the country's long-held secularist values.

According to the Ankara prosecutor’s office, at least 60 people were killed amid the military coup attempt in Turkey, 42 of them died in Ankara. The victims include civilians and military servicemen.
