Mutineers who attempted to overthrow the Erdogan government used helicopters against government buildings and protesters who flooded the streets of Istanbul and Ankara.

It's unclear what type of weapons were used against the parliament building, but as is clear from the video, the explosion shook the main chamber where lawmakers gathered to discuss the crisis.

A member of Turkish parliament reached by phone says that lawmakers are hiding in shelters within the building.

Casualties have been reported near the building as coup participants opened fire.

The government maintains that the coup has been suppressed.
