Polish City of Krakow to Host World Heritage Committee Session in 2017

The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization's (UNESCO) World Heritage Committee will hold its 2017 annual session in Polish city of Krakow, the organization said in a statement on Sunday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The 40th session of the UNESCO committee, which kicked off in Istanbul on July 10 and was due to last through July 20, adjourned its work three days before schedule due to the UN security protocol put in place following the events that occurred in Turkey on July 15.

"The 41st session of the World Heritage Committee will be held in the city of Cracow in Poland, in July 2017," the UNESCO statement published on its website reads.

The 40th Committee session will resume in Paris in October to examine outstanding issues that could not be discussed over the past seven days. During the 40th Committee session, 21 sites were included on the World Heritage List, which include 12 cultural sites, six natural and three mixed sites.

Late on Friday, Turkish authorities said that an attempted coup took place in the country. The coup was suppressed several hours later.
