US President Barack Obama has condemned the Baton Rouge shooting incident and following standoff, the White House said Sunday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier on Sunday, at least three police officers have been killed and several others injured, including one in critical condition, in a shooting which reportedly involved three attackers. The shooting took place in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

"I condemn, in the strongest sense of the word, the attack on law enforcement in Baton Rouge. For the second time in two weeks, police officers who put their lives on the line for ours every day were doing their job when they were killed in a cowardly and reprehensible assault," Obama said in a statement published on the government website.

The location of the shooting is some five miles away from where police shot and killed African-American man Alton Sterling last week, triggering protests across the country.

"There is no justification for violence against law enforcement. None. These attacks are the work of cowards who speak for no one. They right no wrongs. They advance no causes," Obama added.

The scene of shooting is reportedly located near the Hammond Aire Plaza shopping center less than one mile from police headquarters.
