Australian Ex-Head Seeks Nomination for UN Secretary's General Post
02:16 GMT 18.07.2016 (Updated: 02:17 GMT 18.07.2016) Former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd asked the government to nominate him a candidate for the UN Secretary's General post, the country's Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said on Monday, as quoted by media.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — "Kevin Rudd has requested that the Australian government nominate him, and as the prime minister has indicated on a number of occasions that will be a matter for the cabinet," Bishop was cited by Sky News broadcaster as saying.
A new secretary general of the United Nations should be elected in 2016, as Ban Ki-moon’s tenure is due to end on December 31, 2016.
