Hyseni informed Parliamentary Commission for Security on the rise of extremism and the data on Kosovars currently engaged in the armed conflicts outside of the country.
"There are 70 active Kosovar fighters in Syria and Iraq today. Unfortunately, there also are 38 women and 27 children in conflict zones, while 57 Kosovo citizens have been declared dead," Hyseni told Parliament members, as quoted by the Prishtina Insight newspaper.
Hyseni also briefed the lawmakers on the major terrorism-related issues in the country.
"It’s difficult to know where, how, and when terrorists will strike… The problem is radicalization in prisons. Instead of reading Nobel writers, they read books from mad men. We have about 40 people sentenced [for terrorism] in Kosovo jails and we need to ensure that they are reintegrated into society," Hyseno added.
On Monday, five Kosovo Albanians have been sentenced to terms from four to 13 years in prison for plotting terrorist acts and being alleged accomplices to Islamic State terrorist group, banned in the United States, Russia and many other countries.
According to government data, the total of 314 Kosovars have participated in conflicts in Syria and Iraq up to date.
