Turkey's National Security Council will meet on July 20, following a military coup attempt in the country, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Around 290 people were killed and over 1,400 wounded in the failed attempt by the military to grab power in Turkey on Friday.

"Our government is in an important preparation and hopefully we will convene the National Security Council on Wednesday,” he told a crowd gathered near his Istanbul residence as quoted by Anadolu news agency.

 The Turkish government has accused US-based Muslim cleric Muhammed Fethullah Gulen of having played a key role in the coup.
