MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Police set up a perimeter of some 850 feet around the Formule 1 hotel situated close to the A7 motorway in the commune of Bollene in the Vaucluse department, according to French newspaper Le Dauphine.

There was no immediate information on the reason for the standoff. No hostage crisis was reported.

The man's motives are not immediately known, but he is thought to be armed with a knife and may have an explosive device, a local gendarme officer said, as quoted by Reuters.

Media reports, however, suggest he may have simply had a row with a hotel manager.
