KHANTY-MANSIYSK (Sputnik) — The forum was held in the region on June 8-9 and involved BRICS and SCO countries. Forum participants included experts, IT representatives and officials from 48 countries.
“The document was signed by representatives of 46 countries, including China, Brazil, India, South Africa and Russia. The text, approved by all parties, was submitted to the Yugra Government as the forum host,” the Yugra representative said.
He said that the authors of the declaration called for listing the development of standards for media information literacy among the priority objectives of the national policy.
“The media information literacy and efficiency of open governments is growing in many countries due to the implementation of modern communication technologies that provide a new quality of feedback between the authorities and the citizens. Media literacy expands the opportunities for citizens to directly participate in the development and implementation of government decisions, and increases their level of satisfaction with the way state services are provided. Yugra has accumulated extensive experience in creating a culture of open government. Governor of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area Natalya Komarova has set the objective to create and assess every key solution for the region’s development, from long-term strategy to appointments of regional ministers, through an open dialogue between society and the authorities. In particular, the Open Region center was founded in the region for these purposes,” Yelena Shumakova, director of the Public and External Relations Department, said.
According to her, the declaration states that better media information literacy will contribute to achieving the UN sustainable development goals until 2030. They include reducing corruption, ensuring accountability and transparency for government bodies, and providing public access to socially important information.
