MOSCOW (Sputnik) — German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Wednesday she is willing to wait until Britain has formulated its position on the EU exit process and future ties with the bloc.
"It is the UK government’s task to formulate and define first their idea of UK’s future relationship with the EU and then take necessary steps, specifically invoking Article 50. Only then we will be able to launch exit talks," Merkel said at a press conference.
Speaking at the joint press meeting in Berlin, UK Prime Minister Theresa May said she will only initiate the formal exit proceedings once the nation is clear about its objectives. She reiterated this will not happen before the end of 2016.
