A fire is raging in western Moscow over an area of 5,500 square meters (almost 60,000 square feet), the Russian capital’s emergencies authorities inform.

Earlier it was reported that a three-stored building at Kutuzovsky Prospekt was hit by the fire of the third category of complexity.

The cause of the fire, according to preliminary data, was the malfunction of electrical equipment, according to a RIA Novosti source in the emergency services.

"The preliminary cause — faulty electrical equipment," — the source said.

"Fire area is 5000 square meters", — stated in the emergencies report published in the microblog on Twitter.

An emergencies source told RIA Novosti that helicopters could be used at the onset of dawn to help extinguish the blaze.

There has been no information on casualties or damages.

The fire erupted at a former brewery in the early hours of Thursday.
