WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — David Duke, former leader of the Ku Klux Klan and US Congressman, announced in a statement on Friday he will run for the US Senate in order to put a stop on the ethnic cleansing of Americans of European ancestry.
"We must stop the ethnic cleansing of people whose forefathers created America," Duke stated.
European Americans need someone in the US Congress who will stand up for their rights and heritage, he maintained.
Duke also claimed in the statement that he coined in 1992 the slogan "America First," which is now used by Republican Party’s presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Duke, who seeks to represent the US state of Louisiana in the Senate, was convicted for tax fraud and embezzling funds in 2002, and spent one year in federal prison.
