MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in July, the organizers of the event revealed that almost two million tickets for the Rio Olympics, or 75 percent, remained unsold. The Games are due to start on August 5.
"We are very pleased with the rush for Olympic tickets experienced today. We know that Brazilians are last-minute buyers and it is fantastic to see that the excitement and anticipation for the Games is now reaching its peak. There are still tickets available across many sports, including finals, and fans are encouraged to enter the ticket portal as soon as possible to join us on this journey," the Rio 2016 ticketing director Donovan Ferreti said as quoted in the statement published Thursday.
