Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump vowed never to support large, multilateral trade deals and impose punitive trade measures against countries that violate US terms of trade, the draft text of his nomination speech says.

CLEVELAND (Sputnik), Leandra Bernstein — The anti-free trade platform of the Republican candidate is at odds with the traditional Republican support for large trade deals. During the US primary elections Trump rejected the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal and slammed the controversial North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

"No longer will we enter into these massive deals, with many countries…Instead, I will make individual deals with individual countries," Trump says in the draft of the speech prepared for delivery on Thursday night.

Trump went on to vow to "enforce all trade violations" through the imposition of "taxes and tariffs, against any country that cheats."

‘Horrible’ trade deals with China

Billionaire Donald Trump has promised to step away from large, multilateral trade deals and to renegotiate trade agreements with individual states, particularly China.

"I am going to turn our bad trade agreements into great trade agreements," Trump stressed at the Republican National Convention adding that "Our horrible trade agreements with China, and many others, will be renegotiated."

"I will make individual deals with individual countries," Trump continued saying that "Our country is going to start making and building things again."
