Even though this bizarre and at times even scary looking attire can discourage some beachside skirt chasers, it still provides effective protection against the tan inducing UV rays while in direct sunlight as well as jellyfish, insects and other irritants while on the beach.
Small wonder, that, as the temperatures soar, the facekini is quickly becoming a fashion trend on many Chinese beaches this summer, according to The China Daily.
Facekini, which comes complete with a body suit, is a protective head mask designed for swimmers and beachgoers which covers the head and reveals only the eyes, nose, and mouth.
It was invented around seven years ago and is now being mass produced and readily available at swimwear stores along the coast.
The mask is made of a stretchy fabric and comes in different colors and patterns. Facekinis are often worn in combination with sunglasses, visors, umbrellas and other sun protecting gear.
