Russian four-time world champion swimmer Yulia Efimova is filing an appeal in the International Arbitration Court for Sport (CAS) over a doping-related ban on her participation in the upcoming 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Brazil, her agent Andrei Mitkov said Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The International Swimming Federation (FINA) said earlier on Monday that Efimova, among seven Russian swimmers, is not eligible to compete at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games as she does not meet "clean athlete" criteria established by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

"We have decided to file an appeal with the CAS, with defendants being the IOC, FINA and the Russian Olympic Commitee (ROC), which becomes co-defendant automatically after agreeing with the IOC on barring athletes with any doping-abuse record in career, although this criteria contradicts the Olympic Charter," Mitkov told R-Sport in a phone call.
