"The games are the culmination of a long process which began more than 10 years ago to enable people with Down Syndrome to experience sport as something other than mere entertainment," Marco Borzacchini, FISDIR president said, cited by thelocal.it.

Russia was represented by four athletes, including Arina Kutepova, who competed in the category of artistic gymnastics and won five medals.

The competition was held in Florence from July 15 to 22 and was organized with the support of the Italian Federation of Sports for Intellectually and Relationally Disabled (FISDIR), the Italian Paralympic Committee (CIP) and the Sports Union for athletes with Down Syndrome (SU-DS).
