Moscow has suggested to ASEAN member states to elaborate collective measures to reduce the number of terrorists who fight for Daesh.

VIENTIANE (Sputnik) — Moscow has suggested to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states to elaborate collective measures to reduce the number of terrorists who fight for Islamic State (Daesh) that originally came from the ASEAN region and Russia, a source said.

"To solve the problem of terrorism, a comprehensive approach is required, including reducing the number of foreign fighters, who are coming to Daesh from the region, from Russia, from our neighbors' territory. [Moscow] has suggested to develop appropriate collective measures," the source from the Russian delegation told RIA Novosti.

The measures could be elaborated through the partnership mechanisms, including informal meetings of defense ministers, working group on counter-terrorism, the source noted.

ASEAN comprises Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam.

Daesh is a terrorist organization, outlawed in many countries, including Russia.
