ANKARA (Sputnik) – Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu extended a hand of gratitude to Russian President Vladimir Putin and other high-ranking Russian officials for full support to the Turkish government during the coup attempt.
"Russia has provided us with complete and unconditional support during the coup attempt, for that we are grateful to Putin and all Russian officials," Cavusoglu said in a statement televised on Haberturk television.
He forecast a possible meeting between Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan next month ahead of the G20 summit, where the two leaders would discuss steps to fully restore economic ties after the November 2015 downing of a Russian jet by Turkey.
Over 13,000 military, political and judicial figures have been detained across Turkey after a July 15 government overthrow attempt that was suppressed the following day.
