MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russian President Vladimir Putin briefed permanent members of the national Security Council of the latest international Olympic body’s ruling against imposing a total ban on Russian athletes at the upcoming Rio Games, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday, adding that Putin planned to meet the Russian national team a day later.
"The recent International Olympic Committee [IOC] decision regarding Russian athletes was touched upon on the eve of Putin’s meeting with the Russian Olympic team scheduled for tomorrow," Peskov said.
The IOC made a decision on Sunday not to ban the entire Russian Olympic team from the participation in the upcoming games in Rio, choosing to leave it to the individual sports federations to decide on athletes' participation. The IOC also banned all Russian athletes with doping record from the games.
