WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition of more than 60 nations has been carrying out airstrikes in Syria and Iraq since the summer of 2014.
"In Syria, coalition military forces conducted seven strikes using attack, ground-attack, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL [Daesh] targets," the release stated on Tuesday. "Additionally in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 13 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq."
The dozen airstrikes in Iraq hit locations near six cities, including Mosul and Tal Afar, destroying tactical units, fighting positions, weapons facilities, mortar systems and check points.
The Daesh terrorist group, also known as Daesh in Arabic, is outlawed in the United States, Russia and numerous other countries throughout the world.
