“The truth is that a Trump victory in November would be a gift to Vladimir Putin and given what we have learned about Russia's recent actions [alleged Russian participation in DNC email hack], Putin is eager to see Trump win. And that should worry every American,” Albright said while addressing the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Philadelphia.
On July 22, the whistleblowing website WikiLeaks published nearly 20,000 emails from the DNC. The campaign of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton said Russian hackers could be behind the leak to help US Republican nominee Donald Trump in the race for presidency. Trump mocked Clinton’s campaign for that accusation.
On Tuesday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed allegations of Russian involvement in the DNC cyberattack as "absurd," saying it was an attempt to "manically use" the issue of Russia in the US electoral campaign.
The DNC hack was revealed on the opening day of the Democratic nominating convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, when Wikileaks leaked a number of emails implicating the DNC and its chairwoman, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz of deliberately sabotaging the presidential candidacy of US Senator Bernie Sanders.
