All Charges Against Baltimore PD Officers in Freddie Gray Case Dropped
13:48 GMT 27.07.2016 (Updated: 11:06 GMT 06.08.2022) Charges were dropped against three remaining Baltimore, Maryland police officers in connection with the death of African-American man Freddie Gray, local media reported on Wednesday.
The decision was announced at a pretrial motions hearing for Officer Garrett Miller. Officer William Porter’s retrial was set to start in September, and Sergeant Alicia White was to go on trial in October, the Baltimore Sun reported.
Freddie Gray was arrested by Baltimore police officers on April 12, 2015 and died one week later after suffering a spinal cord injury while in police custody.
The 25-year-old African-American got critical injuries in a Baltimore Police Department van due to rough driving by officer Caesar Goodson, Baltimore, Maryland, prosecutor Michael Schatzow said earlier in June.
Gray’s death a week after his arrest in April 2015 sparked a series of protests in Baltimore, some of which turned violent and were met by a heavy police response.
