A meeting between the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistan Rangers was held in Lahore, Pakistan from July 25 to 28th during which a range of issues including the prevention of cross-border smuggling, the swift return of people mistakenly crossing the border and incidents of unprovoked firing at the Line Of Control were discussed.
“This was a regular meeting between BSF and Pakistan Rangers; it was held in Pakistan in Lahore. The BSF delegation was led by Director K. K. Sharma while the Pakistan delegation was led by Major General Umar Farooq Burki, Director General of the Pakistan Rangers. The meeting was held is a cordial and cooperative atmosphere and a consensus war reached that since the last such meeting in Delhi in September, 2015, there has been greater adherence to the ceasefire along the international border,” Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Vikas Swarup said during a press conference today.
He said that the Director General of the BSF invited the Director General of the Pakistan Rangers to visit India for the next round of these biannual talks.
The last meeting between the BSF and the Pakistan Rangers was held in September in New Delhi last year, during which the two sides had decided not to fire heavy artillery like mortar shells and ensure that civilians living along the border were not harmed.
