MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russian President Vladimir Putin dismissed the detained on suspicion of bribery governor of Kirov Region on Thursday, replacing him with the chief of the Federal Service for State Registration, Cadaster and Cartography (Rosreestr).
"Impeach Nikita Yuryevich Belykh from office of the Governor of Kirov Region in connection with the loss of the Russian President’s confidence," a decree published on the Kremlin website states.
The Kremlin press service later said Putin appointed head of Rosreestr Igor Vasiliev as interim Kirov governor.
Belykh was detained late on June 24 in the act of allegedly accepting an almost $450,000 bribe.
Belykh’s attorney told RIA Novosti the ex-governor saw the dismissal "with understanding."
