MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia's Roscosmos space corporation said Thursday it had postponed the launch of a Proton carrier rocket with a US telecoms satellite on board until at least October 10.
"Roscosmos launch planning commission has decided to delay the launch of a Proton-M carrier rocket with US telecommunications satellite EchoStar 21. The new date has been preliminary set for October 10, 2016," Roscosmos said in a statement.
EchoStar 21, built by Space Systems/Loral with estimated operational life of 15 years, is expected to extend constellation of Echostar satellites and will provide 2 GHz mobile voice and data communications utilizing S-band transponders mainly with European coverage.
