SIMFEROPOL (Sputnik) – A dozen of French lawmakers led by Mariani, a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, have come to Crimea for a three-day visit, the second since last July.
"More can be done but what we heard today from the Crimean authorities proves that rights of the Crimean Tatars are observed better than rights of the Russian minority in some Baltic states," Mariani said at a press conference in Simferopol.
The French lawmaker said the rights of the ethnic Tatar population were in the spotlight of Western media these days. Crimean Tatars are a minority group in the Russian-majority region, which voted overwhelmingly to leave Ukraine for Russia in a March 2014 referendum.
