ROME (Sputnik) — The prime minister stressed that in order to defeat Daesh, outlawed in Russia and multiple other countries, it was necessary to refrain from making mistakes similar to those made in Libya where Muammar Gaddafi was toppled in 2011 without any particular plan for the country's political future.
"The Italian special services are carrying out unprecedented work. I would also like to thank law enforcement, investigators, the Interior Minister and the whole system. All the countries are in the zone of risk, including us. But thorough and constant work is underway," Renzi told the Italian La Repubblica newspaper in an interview, published on Sunday.
The country was later contested by two rival governments — the internationally-recognized Council of Deputies and the Tripoli-based General National Congress, becoming a hotbed of terrorism.
