Save the Children Charity Working to Keep Shelled Hospital in Syria's Idlib Open
14:33 GMT 01.08.2016 (Updated: 14:40 GMT 01.08.2016) Save the Children charity is making efforts to keep open a maternity hospital in Syria's northwestern province of Idlib, which has been partially destroyed in an airstrike, the charity said in a statement Monday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Friday, a part of the hospital in Idlib was destroyed in the bombing.
"Save the Children has been working with their partner in the region around the clock to keep the bombed maternity hospital in Idlib open. It’s currently operating at a reduced level and only able to support emergency cases and non-surgical deliveries… Repair work is underway," the statement said.
The statement added that during the airstrike at least two people were killed, six more injured and one pregnant woman had lost two legs.
Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with the government forces fighting several opposition factions and militant organizations. The crisis has caused a humanitarian disaster, forcing millions of people to flee their country.
