DONETSK (Sputnik) – Twelve people were killed and another 46 were injured during shelling by the Kiev forces in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) in July, Eduard Basurin, the DPR deputy defense minister, said Tuesday.
"In July, 11 DPR soldiers were killed and 21 were wounded. Among the civilian population, one was killed and 25 were wounded," Basurin told reporters.
Ukraine launched a military operation in the country's southeast in April 2014, after local residents refused to recognize the new coup-imposed government in Kiev. Despite the Minsk peace accords signed in February last year, the sides continue to blame each other for ceasefire violations.
The confrontation has claimed over 9,400 lives, according to UN estimates.
