Luxembourg Prosecutor Appeals Verdicts on 'LuxLeaks' Tax Scandal Whistleblowers
12:59 GMT 02.08.2016 (Updated: 13:00 GMT 02.08.2016) Luxembourg's Public Prosecutor appealed on Tuesday against the results of a trial in regard to a journalist and two whistleblowers, who revealed the information about the tax evasions schemes in the country.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — In June, Antoine Deltour and Raphael Halet, two former employees of the accountancy firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), were given suspended sentences, while journalist Edouard Perrin had been acquitted of charges. Deltour and Halet had been previously accused of leaking documents, proving how some major companies minimized their taxes using Luxembourg's proposals, while Perrin was under accusation of report about the leak.
The Luxemburger Wort reported that Luxembourg's Public Prosecutor had already appealed against the June verdicts.
The newspaper added citing lawyers of Perrin and Deltour that the appeal hearing could take place either in the end of 2016 or in the beginning of the 2017.
In 2014, the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists revealed a database of "Luxembourg Leaks." According to the documents, Luxembourg offered favorable tax arrangements to big multinational companies, including Apple, Amazon, Pepsi and IKEA.
