TRIPOLI (Sputnik) – On Monday, the Pentagon announced it had conducted airstrikes against two Daesh targets in Libya, in coordination with the internationally recognized Libyan Government of National Accord.
"US airstrikes have hit IS [Daesh] positions in Sirte. There is no US military presence on the ground there," Mohammed Ghasri said.
Libya has been in a state of turmoil since its longtime leader Muammar Gaddafi was deposed and killed in 2011. Daesh, which is outlawed in many countries including Russia, seized a pocket of Libyan territory centered in Sirte in November 2014.
