TOKYO (Sputnik) — The reshuffle comes after last month’s upper-house parliamentary election, which reaffirmed the mandate of Shinzo’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).
Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and Finance Minister Taro Aso kept their jobs. Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Hiroshige Seko was appointed economy, trade and industry minister.
LDP policy chief Tomomi Inada was promoted to head the Defense Ministry, becoming the second woman to hold this job after Yuriko Koike first claimed the office in 2007. Koike won the Tokyo mayoral race last Sunday.
