MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Ukrainsky was detained in Thailand on July 21 at the request of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on suspicion of credit card fraud. Bangkok had not notified Moscow of the detention.
"During talks between the prosecutors general of Russia and Thailand, the Russian side handed over a request on the extradition of Russian national Dmitry Ukrainsky. This document envisions both an extradition procedure and the possibility of deportation," spokesman for the Russian prosecutor's office Alexander Kurennoy said.
Ukrainsky, 44, denies his guilt. He refused a proposal for voluntary extradition to the United States. On July 29, Ukrainsky was told that the US could prepare all documents needed for his extradition to the States within a month.
According to Russian Foreign Ministry's Human Rights Ombudsman Konstantin Dolgov the chance remains that Thailand would not extradite the Russian national to the United States.
