WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The council’s ultimate goal is to create jobs in the United States and Africa, the order signed on Wednesday explained.
Hours later, Obama elaborated during a town hall meeting in Washington, DC with about 1,000 participants in the Mandela Fellowship for Young African Leaders who are studying in the United States.
"One of the things that leaders in Washington agree on … Republicans and Democrats, is the importance of a strong American partnership with the nations and peoples of Africa," Obama told the students.
Obama established the fellowship for students in sub-Saharan Africa in 2014.
He said on Wednesday that he is working to have the program continue after he leaves office in January.
