BEIJING (Sputnik) — The East Turkestan Islamic Movement, which currently operates in China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, is often responsible for incidents in the region. The group is considered a terrorist organization by Beijing and is blamed for organizing illegal activities and terrorist attacks in Xinjiang and other regions of the country. The organization reportedly recruits local citizens and then sends them for training to militant camps in Syria and Iraq.
"There are cases when East Turkestan separatists are trying to use the eastern part of Russian-Chinese border in order to get to the other countries where they receive training and then come back to China to carry out terrorist activity," Gui told journalists.
He added that two countries must strengthen bilateral cooperation in defense of the common border and fight crossing attempts made for the sake of the terrorism.
