Anti-Semitic Incidents See a Sharp Spike in Austria
MOSCOW (Sputnik) Anti-semitic incidents in the United Kingdom have seen the 11 percent rise in the first half of 2016 compared to the same period last year, the Jewish charity Community Security Trust (CST) report revealed on Thursday.

"CST recorded 557 antisemitic incidents across the UK in the first six months of 2016, an 11 per cent increase on the first six months of 2015," the report revealed.

Among the 557 antisemitic incidents the CST recorded, almost every forth (24 percent) took place on social media which is, according to the organization, "now used as a tool for coordinated campaigns of antisemitic harassment, threats and abuse directed at Jewish public figures and other individuals."

The sharpest increase in the antisemitic incidents in the January-June 2016 compared to the same period last year, namely 62 percent, was recorded in the Greater London.

"The long term trend shows that the number of antisemitic incidents has been at a sustained higher level since the summer of 2014, when incidents in the UK increased sharply in response to conflict in Israel and Gaza, than it was in the two years beforehand. Average monthly antisemitic incident totals are now almost double what they were in 2011–2013," the report revealed.

CST has been recording antisemitic incidents since 1984. The charity is aimed to protect British Jews from antisemitism and related threats.
