MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) independent panel cleared the entire Russian women’s handball team to take part in the upcoming Rio Games, Russian Handball Federation President Sergey Shishkarev said Thursday.
"The International Handball Federation [IHF] informed me that the IOC commission officially admitted our team in full," Shishkarev told R-Sport by phone.
A total of 15 Russian players previously listed in the national team's final entry will kick off the games in this Saturday.
The IOC's three-person panel tasked with the admissions of Russian athletes is chaired by Turkey’s Ugur Erdener, and includes former IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch and athletes commission chair Claudia Bokel.
