WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US Air Force is hoping to refocus some of its technical personnel and resources into offensive cyber operations in the coming years, Air Force Secretary Deborah James said on Thursday.
“The big challenge over the next few years is going to be to gradually shift dollars and people, manpower, away from the network ops and more focused on defense, as well as substitute cyber for kinetic effects,” James said at a New America Foundation forum.
The biggest challenge in the cyber domain is “how to shift to more defense, and the ability to substitute kinetic effects, call it the offense,” James said.
In April, the US Department of Defense made its first official announcement of using cyber capabilities for an offensive military operation against the Daesh.
