Red Square and Other Sights in Europe 'You Must See Before You Die'
11:24 GMT 05.08.2016 (Updated: 12:27 GMT 05.08.2016) Moscow's Red Square has been included in a UK Telegraph list of the thirty sights in Europe that you must see within your lifetime.
The square, "Moscow’s focal point" described as "once the location for executions, then for Soviet military parades – two cathedrals were demolished to make way for army vehicles, before being rebuilt after the Union’s fall – and is now home to Lenin’s mausoleum," is one of two Russian landmarks that made it to the aptly named "Short-Haul Bucket List" compiled by the Telegraph.
The other Russian attraction that "you must see before you die" turned out to be the Hermitage – a gallery so vast that "it would take 11 years to examine every exhibit in the collection."
Other prominent sights mentioned in the list include Istanbul's Hagia Sophia, the Vatican's Sistine Chapel, the Acropolis in Athens, and the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
The list is also not limited to man-made constructions, and also includes places such as the Matterhorn, Turkey's Pamukkale, Lake Bled in central Slovenia and even one natural phenomenon – the northern lights of Scandinavia and Iceland.
