Jo Leinen, member of the European Parliament, was appointed Chief Observer of the EOM by EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, according to the press release.
"I look forward to taking on my task as Chief Observer for the EOM to Jordan. The EOM will provide an independent and impartial assessment of the elections. The EOM will closely follow all stages of the elections, including the campaign and will work in a transparent and cooperative manner with all Jordanian stakeholders," Leinen was quoted as saying by the press service.
The parliamentary elections in Jordan are scheduled for September 20.
According to the press release, this will be the second elections in Jordan observed by the European Union, with the previous observation mission having taken place in 2013.
