The 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro are about to begin after an opening ceremony at the Maracana stadium.

Despite the ongoing political and economic turmoil in the country, along with an outbreak of Zika virus, Brazil is now very close to seeing the actual games get underway.

The Olympics will run from August 5 until August 21 and will feature a total of 306 events in 42 sports, with over 10,000 athletes from all over the world competing for 136 medals for women, and 161 medals for men.
