US Not Planning to Extradite Gulen Cleric to Turkey Due to Inconclusive Evidence
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) US citizens in Turkey should be aware of protests planned to take place in Ankara’s neighborhood Kizilay and other locations around the capital over the weekend, the US embassy announced on Friday.

“Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of demonstrations and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations,” the embassy said.

Following the July 15 attempted military coup against the government of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, there have been a number of anti-American protests in Turkey, including at the Incirlik air base, where US troops are stationed.

Turkish officials and media have fueled suspicions of US involvement in the military coup. The supposed mastermind of the coup, Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen, was exiled from Turkey and currently resides in the United States. US officials have so far refused Turkish government demands to extradite Gulen.
