"China welcomes the Russian humanitarian mission in Aleppo that is being carried out in accordance with a UN mandate. We are supporting all the measures taken by the international community to overcome the humanitarian crisis in Syria," the statement said.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry also called on all parties of the conflict to remain committed to political settlement of the crisis, to adhere to the ceasefire regime, to fight terrorism, to work on providing people with humanitarian aid as well as to play a constructive role in solving the Syrian issue.
Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with government forces loyal to President Bashar Assad fighting a number of opposition factions and extremist groups. On February 27, a US-Russia brokered ceasefire came into force in Syria. Terrorist groups such as Daesh, as well as Jabhat Fatah al Sham (also known as Jabhat al-Nusra, or Nusra Front) are not part of the deal. Both groups are outlawed in Russia and a range of other countries.
