MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The demonstrators marched protesting against what they called "The Exclusion Games" and set a Brazilian flag and a Rio 2016 volunteer T-shirt on fire, the newspaper said on Friday. After that, police fired tear gas and a percussion grenade at the demonstrators.
Brazil is hosting the Summer Olympic Games on August 5-21, 2016. It is the first South American country to host the competition.
Over the past year, the local public has been frustrated over Brazil's decision to host the Games as the country faced a pile of domestic problems, including the notorious Zika virus, President Dilma Rouseff's impeachment, and general economic decline.
A peaceful protest against the Olympic Games was held near the Maracana Stadium on Friday afternoon. Demonstrators have also protested as the Olympic torch traveled around the Rio area.
