Take Amelia for example, the exception to the aqua-phobic cat rule… She's the seafaring feline who loves to sail around the world alongside her adventurist human sea captain Liz Clark.
One quality Amelia does share with her fellow cats around the world however, is she's quite the diva even whilst having been on a boat all day, every day for the last 4 years and there are plenty of great photos to enjoy on their Instagram page, which boasts an impressive 75.1K followers!
Whatever it is about cat-worshipping on the Internet, it truly is an international phenomenon and on #InternationalCatDay, we pay props to Amelia and all of her cat buddies around the world, who just don't care enough to worry about whether they are more popular than dogs, they know they rule the roost in every household, or boat even, on which they reside.
Today is International Cat Day. Expect all cats to walk around like we own the place.

We also pay props to the cat loving owners who like Liz Clark on her Swell Voyage, wouldn't be seen without their feline partners in crime.
Clark set out from California in 2005 with plans of sailing all over the world. The cat lady and her feline have clocked more than 25,000 nautical miles since her departure and she chronicles her travels in her blog.
"As a surfer and environmentalist enchanted by remote waves and foreign cultures, I left California in the hope of succeeding at my life-long dream of surf exploration via sailboat. Since then, the voyage has presented more fantastic friends, waves, adventures, natural beauty, opportunities for personal growth and insights than I dreamed possible."
Once, Amelia disappeared while Clark was visiting an island, and Clark was forced to sail off without her. Forty-two days later, Clark learned that Amelia had been seen hanging out by a bed and breakfast on the island. Clark returned to the island, found Amelia, and walked out to her boat in preparation to leave.
Amelia chose to join Clark in her sailboat again, and the two set off together to continue where they'd left off.
Regularly chronicling her journey on her blog, Liz describes the joys of solitary traveling and along the way she works on local environmental projects, making presentations on pollution and conservation issues in schools, and she continues writing and documenting the voyage in hopes of inspiring others to live out their passions, face fears, discover the unlimited benefits of self-awareness, and explore human connections to all of life on Earth.
A femme-activist of the sea in every sense.

Her voyage is certainly no ordinary quest for hedonism, but in fact a more evolved, meaningful version that led her to quit her job, switch off from general life expectations and the overall mundanity of daily working life on the hamster wheel balancing career with life and with her real dreams and ambitions suppressed.
With her choice, she is off the grid enough not to be bothered by average, every day chores, yet on the grid enough to be able to share her journey via social media and her blog and also keep contact with civilisation.
Amelia the cat is the lucky one who gets to accompany her throughout, or as she herself likely feels in that cat mind of hers, Liz is the lucky human accompanying her!
Amelia the cat is aptly named after Amelia Earhart, who was the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean in 1932. A testament to her adventurous cat spirit.
Happy International Cat Day!
