MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia's Beslan Mudranov won gold in the men's 60 kg competition in judo on Saturday, the Russian national team's first medal in Rio.
The Russian women archery team, which came first in the 2015 World Archery Championships, won a silver medal on the second day of the Games, adding the fourth Rio Olympic medal to the country's tally.
The same day, Vitalina Batsarashkina, a 19-year-old shooter from Russia, won a silver medal in the women's 10m air pistol shooting. Batsarashkina was second to the 199.4-point result of China's Zhang Mengxue, scoring 197.1 points.
Russian volleyball players defeated the Cuban team in the opening match with a score of 3:1, while Yulia Efimova, who won her appeal against a doping ban on the eve of the Rio Olympics, will take part in Women’s 100m breaststroke final on Tuesday.
Russia currently occupies seventh place in the overall medal count with the United States topping the table with 12 medals, including three gold.
The 31st Summer Olympics kicked off in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Friday, and are set to last through August 21. There is a record number of participating teams this year, unique medals for winning athletes and two sports — golf and rugby — have been included in the program a century since their last appearance.
